Govt plans eight greenfield cities

ARJAVA MEDIA:

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development Affairs is planning to fund eight new cities in India. Each city will get 1000 crore to build.

Fifteenth Finance Commission has allocated ₹8,000 crore as a performance-based challenge fund for the incubation of eight new cities. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development Affairs (MoHUA) received 28 proposals from 23 States. A State can have only one new city through this fund.
In line with the recommendations of the 15th FC, the Ministry constituted an Expert Committee (EC) for the finalisation of bid parameters for new cities. The Committee finalised minimum eligibility conditions and bid parameters. First, the Ministry received 26 proposals from 21 States up to the last date. Due to the non-receipt of qualitative proposals from North-Eastern States, the government later floated revised proposals. Consequently, a total of 28 proposals came from 23 States.
To give impetus to the proposals from North-Eastern (NE)/Hilly States for the incubation of new cities, the preferred size of the proposed cities is more than 25 Hectares. For all other States, the preferred size of the proposed cities is more than 50 Hectares. The envisaged population of the new city in NE and Hilly States is at least 25,000. For all other States, the envisaged population is 1,00,000. The new proposals include Pallipuram from Kerala, New MOPA Ayush City in Pernem, North Goa, Kopparthay in YSR district, Andhra Pradesh, New Ranchy City, Jharkhand, Gurugram in Haryana, Gumin Nagar in Arunachal Pradesh, Ambaji in Gujarat, etc. Each city will get Rs 1000 crore.
