SC dismisses PIL against Greens Zoological

The apex Court did not find ‘any logic or basis’ concerning the allegations against GZRR The Supreme Court dismissed a public interest litigation (PIL) questioning many aspects of the zoo that was established at Jamnagar, Gujarat by the Greens Zoological Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre Society (GZRRC) which is supported by Reliance Industries. The petition, filed by an activist challenging the setting up of the zoo, sought a ban on GZRRC acquiring animals from within India and abroad as also an SIT to inquire into the operations and management of GZRRC. LIC shares: Where is the bottom? What is the correct price?

Analysts must see how much it can create value for shareholders after it meets its mission of delivering to its policyholders. From over Rs 6 trillion on the final IPO price of Rs 949 per share, the market capitalisation of Life Insurance Corporation of India plunged to Rs 4.5 trillion by the time it broke the ground down to an all-time high at the market closing on 10th June. Since the day it was listed, the stock has seen a one-way fall. Market pundits began to recommend the equity a week ago when it fell to Rs 830, maybe with the hope that its equity had sealed the bottom. But buyers were not easily tamable. After a nine-day unremitting fall, its price fell further to Rs 708 when the market closed on 10th June for the week. Perhaps, no analyst might have foreseen such a fall, thanks...

Listing of LIC stocks

Loss is endemic in the obtuse “IPO” market The initial grey market price of over Rs 1000 for Life Insurance Corporation of India’s (LIC) stock went miserably wrong. The grey market realised the patches late. Bulls retreated from the grey market even after seeing the commitment of angel investors. The debut of the largest life insurer’s equity might not have shocked the analysts who knew the behaviour of the secondary market. Anyway, the tepid listing that shocked the maiden equity buyers was not a big failure but a failure at the cost of optimists’ miscalculation. Angel investors' position tried to bolster sentiment towards the offer. The sheer size of the IPO and the RBI announcement of an interest rate hike by 40 basis points on the day LIC IPO opened for public subscription posed...

Brutal domestication: Incredible elephantine tolerance

The human beings savagely torture the elephant, the largest animal, until it goes berserk. In the process of domestication, the wild animal puts up with brutality worse than the Jewish people suffered in Nazi concentration camps. The clever human domination over the most powerful animal on earth has been possible only because it is a herbivore.    An elephant weighs the equivalent of well over 100 humans. It can lift as many as nine tones and pick up single grain from the surface showing its sensitivity to handling big and small objects. It is the largest land animal, more sensitive than humans and, of course, a wild animal. But elephant toes to the atrocious human direction. So firmly footed on earth, its feet never leave the ground for even a fraction of a second at a time.  ...

Crumbing State of Careless Natives

If what the serosurvey points out is true and the test-positivity factor is a warning, Kerala is crumbling gradually. It is not because of the failures of the State government and local governing authorities alone but by the combined contribution of natives’ neglect of all precautions. Until the natives voluntarily do not try a temporary embargo on their reckless run for ruinous cannabis and alcoholic drinks, the infectious virus will continue to stay with them to ensure total devastation. The time is still not too late to be careful. I am afraid Kerala is in a mess reeling with more than half the number of new Covid-19 cases reported in the entire country. I remember the excellent preparation of Kerala for an all-out fight against the pandemic in summer last year, joined by the police...

Immunity: Immune to misconception?

It seems people have chosen to die of fear. The crazy preventive restrictions may kill the rest before the pandemic may do it. Only the government is in a safe zone with rising tax collections and trade surplus. Lenders are making huge profits. The equities are roaring. Everything is up, while commoners are down to poverty. Policymakers have set the stage for a third wave! Somewhere there is a grievous missing link. Like every other animal, human beings also have innate immunity. We are also supposed to live in interaction with organisms around us, as other animals too do. That is in the inviolable order of nature. Our inadequate knowledge or over-hygiene practices makes us worry about even something trivial.  A life synchronised with nature saves us and helps us live a happier...

Meeting pandemic miseries

The government has to design a comprehensive social protection plan for covering those who lost all their financial resources after the death of the only bread earner. The Central government wanted employers to protect the interest of workers, specifically nursing mothers during the ongoing pandemic time under Section 5(5) of the Maternity Benefit (Amendment) Act, 2017. It has sent an advisory to all the States and Union Territories to encourage work-from-home. It can be construed as the government’s preparation for facing the much feared third wave of the pandemic. The work protection measures also include encouraging employers to retain nursing mothers’ employment. Nevertheless, the concern of many workers who have already lost their jobs can hardly be addressed unless closed compani...
