Vinisha Umashankar, a student innovator turned environmentalist from Tiruvannamalai district of Tamil Nadu, has been selected as a "change-maker" and Baton-bearer for the ongoing 16th official Queen’s Baton Relay in India. The young innovator and fledgling environmentalist Ms Vinisha has been an inspiration for many. The 16th official Queen’s Baton Relay started at the Buckingham Palace in London on 7th October 2021 and is scheduled to conclude on 28th July 2022 at the Opening Ceremony of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games after travelling 72 nations and territories of the Commonwealth for 294 days. Third Wave: Labourers are safe

Once-bitten twice-shy about wrong propaganda. The Central government seems to have taken special care of the migrant labourers, who may move homewards as the third wave of the pandemic is sweeping in metros. But there is no such movement this time. In March 2020, the media had amplified the migrant labourers’ homeward journey after their worksite closure and the consequent transit crisis immediately after the declaration of the national lockdown. WHO dropped remdesivir from Covid-19 drug list

The drug, found ineffective in the solidarity trial, was administered on several hundred thousand Covid-19 patients. Direct tax collection up 14%

The jump in tax collection indicates that the government strategy of covering more in the tax net is proving to be successful. The provisional figures of Direct Tax collections up to December, 2018 show that gross collections are at Rs 8.74 trillion which is 14.1% higher than the gross collections for the corresponding period of last year. Refunds amounting to Rs.1.30 trillion have been issued during April, 2018 to December, 2018, which is 17% higher than refunds issued during the same period in the preceding year. Net collections (after adjusting for refunds) have increased by 13.6% to Rs. 7.43 trillion during April - December, 2018.
