In recent years India has seen rising defence proposals worth close to ₹ 2 trillion under various categories of capital0 acquisition, which promote domestic manufacturing under the defence Acquisition/procurement procedure. Exports also are rising. The government has implemented the ‘Make in India initiative in the defence sector through various policy initiatives to promote indigenous design, development and manufacture of defence items. Capital procurement of defence equipment is carried out as per the extant Defence Procurement Procedure (DPP). DPP-2016 focuses on institutionalizing, streamlining and simplifying defence procurement procedure to give boost to ‘Make in India’ initiative of the Government of India, by promoting indigenous design, development and manufacturing of defence equipment, platforms, systems and sub-systems.
